Jordan Belfort Reveals His Hidden Secret to Success (It's Not What You Think)
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, chances are you know the name Jordan Belfort. He’s the legend that the blockbuster hit, Wolf of Wallstreet was based upon, and he’s made billions in the stock market (albeit illegally).
After coming clean, helping the feds, and serving his time… he’s back, but this time as a force of good. Nowadays, he is a motivational speaker, entrepreneur, and author.
His latest book, Way of the Wolf reveals the step-by-step sales and persuasion system proven to turn anyone into a sales-closing, money-earning rockstar.
One of the most interesting and unique tactics he talks about in the book is called anchoring.

What is anchoring?
Anchoring is a process used in NLP (neuro linguistic programming) to elicit a positive internal response to an external trigger so that the response may be quickly and sometimes covertly re-accessed.
You may be familiar with the infamous Pavlov’s dog experiment where the scientist would ring a bell every time before feeding the dog. After enough conditioning, they would ring the bell and even without any food present, the dog would begin salivating.
Belfort uses this same psychological trick to his advantage, but not for salivation. He uses it to elicit peak emotional states, such as supreme confidence to use in sales situations.
Except, he doesn’t use a bell… or a touch… He uses smell.
Whenever he closes a deal and feels the rush of success, he pulls out his trusty essential oil inhaler (aka BoomBoom), and takes a big whiff, anchoring in the peak emotional state.
Then, whenever he needs an extra boost of confidence (like right before going into a big meeting) he pulls it out and takes a big whiff, recalling the peak state and instantly flooding his body with confidence!
So what’s all the hype about?
You see, typically NLP experts use kinesthetic (touch) anchors to elicit states… they are convenient and do not require any extra equipment.
For instance, “press the side of your thumb when you feel powerful”
The only problem with this is that the anchor can become weakened the more you accidentally touch it… and, it’s not as engaging.
Belfort uses smell to anchor his emotional states, and it is much more effective.
As you may know, smell is the strongest sense tied to memory.
He is leveraging this secret in order to get even greater results!
How can you use this insider knowledge to your advantage?
By now you are probably reading this and thinking, “Okay great, Jordan is wildly successful, so how do I use this knowledge to get the same results?”
Well, although we aren’t claiming you’re going to be the next Jordan Belfort, we can tell you how to start to use this knowledge to feel the way you want to feel more often.
First, you are going to need to find an anchor. If we are doing it like Belfort, we are going to need to find an olfactory anchor. However, this can’t be just any anchor. In order to be optimally effective it needs to have these three characteristics.
One, it must be a smell that you love! What is the point of eliciting a positive state if the smell is repulsive? Find a smell that you absolutely love and you won’t get tired of. Which brings us to our next point...
Two, it must be a smell that is unique! Pick something that you do not smell often. This is probably the most important factor of all, because you want this smell to have prime real estate in your brain! If you were to pick something like a favorite cologne, and somebody walks by you on the street when you are feeling upset, then that becomes confusing to your brain and the anchor becomes completely useless.
Three, pick an anchor that is easy to carry and administer effectively. This means light, compact, and concentrated to get into your nose with the least amount of effort. You want to be able to pull it out of your pocket or purse the moment you feel a peak state that you want to anchor. For an anchor to be set, it must be set in the peak state of which you want to access later.
Belfort uses and recommends BoomBoom
because it hits all three of these parameters. It smells amazing, it's a blend of essential oils you’ve never smelled before, and it is small enough to fit in your pocket, but mighty enough to pack a punch! On top of that, it is all natural and good for you!
So, now that you have your anchor, what do you do?
Whenever you find yourself in a peak
positive emotional state, pull out your BoomBoom
and take a big whiff. Inhale into both nostrils. Allow the sensation to flood your body and lock in the desired emotion.
Then, whenever you want to recall that emotional state (say before a big meeting, a date, or anytime you want to feel confident, powerful, and good) you simply pull out your BoomBoom and take a big whiff. Close your eyes and notice how your body automatically responds with the peak emotional state. That’s it! It’s that simple.
Warning: One thing to be careful of… make sure not to overuse the recall function of the anchor without “charging up” your emotional stores.
Just as it’s not a good idea to choose an anchor that you experience often, it could be detrimental to lean on your anchor too much, as your body will begin to anchor in a lower level of confidence.
The best thing to do is to anchor in good feeling states when you are at peak emotion, and use it to recall the states at about a ratio of 80/20.
This will ensure that your body associates the trigger primarily with the real feeling.
In conclusion, if Jordan Belfort swears by it… you know it's good.
